Canadian Highway Bridge Design Code
Mississauga, ON (Mar 22 - 26, 2010)
Course Code: 00-0321-2059

After participating in this course, you will be able to:
Apply up-to-date knowledge of the latest changes in the Code.
Describe the rationale behind each change in the Code.
Work with the Code having received answers to your questions about the new Code.

Description
Thorough knowledge of the Canadian Highway Bridge Design Code enhances confidence and efficiency of bridge engineers, inspectors and contractors.  The code includes loads, simplified method of analysis, and design of new highway bridges and evaluation/rehabilitation of existing highway bridges.  In addition to the conventional bridge structures, the Code includes a section on Fibre Reinforced Structures.  This course covers the main advancements to bridge technology through the Canadian Highway Bridge Code.

Objective
To provide an update for all individuals who work with the bridges whether in design, evaluation, construction or rehabilitation.

Who Should Attend
Bridge design engineers, planners, bridge contractors, bridge inspectors, supervisors, consulting engineers and contractors involved in design, evaluation, and restoration of highway bridges.

Special Feature
This course includes practical workshops.  We suggest that you bring a copy of the Canadian Highway Bridge Design Code (S6) and Commentary (S6.1) along with a calculator for the workshops.

Faculty

Akhilesh Agarwal
Akhilesh Chandra Agarwal, P.Eng., retired from the Ministry of Transportation of Ontario in 1999 as Manager of the Structures Research Office after about 23 years with the Ministry. During his years at the Ministry, he actively participated in the research and advancement of bridge technology, and in formulating the vehicle weight regulations and special permit guidelines for the Province of Ontario. For over twenty years, he carried out load testing and evaluation of existing bridges in Ontario. In 1980, he coordinated a Canada-wide analytical bridge evaluation program for the Road and Transportation Association of Canada (now TAC) to help develop uniform vehicle weight regulations for inter-provincial transportation. He has been a key player in the original development and subsequent revisions of the Ontario Highway Bridge Design Code (OHBDC). He is considered a leading expert in the field of traffic loads for highway bridges, and is responsible for traffic load provisions in the OHBDC and the CSA-S6 Codes (both, old S6-88 and new Canadian Highway Bridge Design Code, S6-00). He was instrumental in the development of the three-level bridge evaluation system that was introduced in Ontario through the OHBDC in 1979, and now adopted by the Canadian Highway Bridge Design Code (CHBDC) for use across Canada. He was a key player in the development of the CHBDC as Chair of the CHBDC Calibration Subcommittee and a member of the CHBDC Technical Subcommittees on Loads, and Evaluation/Rehabilitation. Currently, he is a member of the CHBDC Technical Committee, and Chairs Technical Subcommittee for Loads and Calibration Task Force for the next Edition of the Code.

The fee for this course is $2,595 + Taxes. If you register after February 19, 2010 the fee increases to $2,895 + Taxes.
