Understanding Industrial Codes, PART 1 – ASME Section 8 (Pressure Vessels) and Section 5 (Non-Destructive Examination)

Saskatoon, SK | May 23 - 24, 2013 * Please take note of the changed date
Course Code: 03-1013-2263

After participating in this course, you will be able to:
• become familiar with ASME Section 5 – Non-Destructive Testing and ASME Section 8 – Pressure Vessels
• develop an understanding of the requirements for compliance with ASME Section 5 – Non-Destructive
Testing and ASME Section 8 – Pressure Vessels
• appreciate the concept and application of Due Diligence

Description
Regulations, Codes and Standards are an essential component of all industrial and manufacturing facilities.  Regulations dictate the standards to be applied and refer to specific codes and standards.  Failure to comply does not only jeopardize safety and the environment but also carries penalties such as fines and possibly imprisonment.  Compliance by all staff levels from Senior Management to hourly paid workers is required.  Application of the required Regulations, Codes and Standards costs money.  Consequently the correct and appropriate application is necessary not only for compliance but also for economic reasons.

This course is Part 1 of a series of courses designed to explain what, where and when various codes (ASME, API, ASTM, ANSI, CSA, etc.) are to be applied.

In this course ASME Section 5 and ASME Section 8 codes will be covered.  Finally the course will discuss Due Diligence – i.e. ‘to be seen to be doing the right thing’.

Note: This course is the first of a series of courses on Industrial Codes to be offered by EPIC.

Objectives
• To provide an understanding of the requirements of the codes
• To show how and where the codes are to be applied
• To explain the code applications for different industries
• To provide an understanding of Due Diligence
• To illustrate with examples how to perform fitness-for service assessment

Who Should Attend
Process, design and project managers, engineers, technicians and supervisors; plant and facilities managers, engineers, technicians and supervisors; plant and facilities operations personnel; maintenance managers, engineers, technicians and supervisors; stationary engineers; consultants and contractors responsible for the design and installation of industrial facilities

Personnel in the chemical, petrochemical, pulp and paper, water utility and energy industries will find this course of particular interest.
